A Maryland gas station has become the first electric car charging station in the U.S. to switch from selling oil - here's how things are

The Maryland station is the first station in the U.S. where gas pumps have been replaced by electric vehicles.

RS Automotives' refueling station in Takoma Park, Maryland, decided to make the change after the owners of Depewar Dawley decided they weren't happy with their oil and gas contract, CNBC reported.

The service station received a $786,000 grant from the Maryland Energy Administration and the Project Electric Vehicle Institute.

About four to five electric car drivers stop at stations every day to charge their cars, reaching the original goal of daily use, Matthew Wade of the Electric Car Institute told Business Insider.
