The total cost of ownership (TCO) of electric vehicles is much higher, but the entry price of an electric bus is even higher. So incentive programs like the California Zero Emissions Program (HVIP), which can provide up to $235,000 to buy an electric school bus, are an important way to fill the gap and encourage communities to invest in electricity that can help kids breathe better air while saving money. Other states such as Massachusetts, New York, Michigan and Washington are also offering incentives for electric buses, but innovative leasing programs could help lower the cost of entering the electric bus market.

Electric buses reduce infrastructure costs

Another advantage of electric buses is that they tend to have relatively short routes and a lot of immobility in the surrounding car parks day and night. This reduces the overall cost of charging infrastructure in schools, giving them enough time to fully charge with powerful AC charging and power management.
